Protecting your privacy and providing a great experience for you on this game is important to us. We created this Privacy Policy so that you are aware what information we collect on the site, how we use it, and with whom who we share it.
1. What information do we collect?
We collect information from you when you register to participate in the online world and gather data when you read, write, and evaluate the content shared there. We also collect information if you sign up for our newsletter or e-mail list.
When registering or signing up, you may be asked to enter a username and e-mail address. You may, however, visit our site without registering or signing up. Your e-mail address may require verification by an e-mail containing a unique link. If that link is visited, we know that you control the e-mail address.
In addition to any Personal Information or other information that you choose to submit to us via our Service, we and our third-party service providers may use a variety of technologies that automatically (or passively) store or collect certain information whenever you visit or interact with the Service “Usage Information“.
This Usage Information may include:
- your IP address, UDID, device identifier or other unique identifier (“UID”). A device identifier is a number that is automatically assigned to your Device used to access the Service, and our computers identify your Device by its device identifier;
- your Device location (with your permission or consent);
- your Device characteristics and certain other Device data, including the time of day.
Technologies we use
We keep this list short and honest — the following are the only technologies we use to store or collect Usage Information:
- Cookies. A cookie is a data file placed on a Device when it is used to visit the Service. We use only first-party, functional cookies: a session cookie (to keep you logged in), a security (CSRF) cookie, and — only if you tick "remember me" — a login cookie. We run no advertising or analytics trackers.
- Location-identifying Technologies. Additionally, and with your consent where required by applicable law, the Services may use GPS (global positioning systems) software and other location-based technologies to locate you so we may verify your location, deliver you relevant content based on your location, as well as allow you to share your location to other users as part of the services we provide via the Services. Upon downloading the App, we provide location-based services to your approximate and/or exact location information. You can opt-out of sharing location data on most Services by adjusting your settings in your device or App.
- Camera and Photos. With your permission, the App uses your Device's camera for two features: scanning QR codes (for example to add a friend — codes are processed on your Device and the camera image is not stored or transmitted by us) and taking photos that you choose to attach to in-game locations. Photos you choose to upload are stored on our servers and are visible to other players together with the location they belong to. You can revoke camera access at any time in your Device settings; doing so disables only these features.
2. How do we use your information?
Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:
- To keep you up to date about the game and other happenings at “Sentient Bit“ through our newsletter;
- To personalize your experience — your information helps us to better respond to your individual needs;
- To improve our site — we continually strive to improve our site offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you;
- To improve customer service — your information helps us to more effectively respond to your customer service requests and support needs;
- To send periodic emails — the email address you provide may be used to send you information (for example, notifications from the forum that you request about changes to topics or in response to your username), respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions.
3. How do we protect your information?
We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you enter, submit, or access your personal information. All passwords are stored using a modern, memory-hard password-hashing algorithm (Argon2id) with an additional server-side secret — we never store and cannot see your actual password. E-mail addresses are stored on access-controlled servers located in the European Union, are used only for the purposes described in this policy, are never sold or shared for marketing, and we do not send unsolicited mail. All traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
4. Do we use cookies?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you permit). These cookies enable the site to recognize your browser and, if you have a registered account, associate it with your registered account.
We use cookies only to keep you logged in, to protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and — if you choose "remember me" — to keep your session across visits. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies.
5. Do we disclose any information to outside parties?
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our site, conducting our business, or servicing you (such as our hosting and e-mail delivery providers), or entities that acquire us or that we merge with, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect our or others’ rights, property, or safety. We do not provide visitor information — identifiable or not — to other parties for marketing or advertising.
6. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and players under 13
Our site, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13 years old or older.
We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent, except as permitted by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) or other applicable laws.
If you are under the age of 13, per the requirements of COPPA, you should not provide us with any personal information unless your parent has approved.
7. Accessing and making changes to your information
You have the right to know about the information that we hold about you. If you would like to know what information we are holding, you should contact us. If the information we hold about you is wrong, insufficient or irrelevant, then you have the right to make sure that it gets corrected or removed.
If personal information you provided to us changes, or if you no longer wish us to have it, you may correct, update, amend, or deactivate it by contacting us or by mailing us at the address listed below.
You can also delete your account yourself at any time — either in the app (Profile → Delete account) or on the web (log in at thegeohunter.com → My Profile → Danger Zone). Deletion is immediate and permanent; see thegeohunter.com/account-deletion for exactly what is removed and what remains anonymised. If you cannot access your account, e-mail us a deletion request from your registered address.

This online privacy policy applies only to information collected through our site and not to information collected offline.

By using our site, you consent to our web site privacy policy.
